What started with a nightly journal evolved into a dream to help young adults with their journey of self-love and finding purpose.
“Hope is a thing with feathers”
The only person we will have for the rest of our lives is ourselves. Let’s learn how to love ourselves and combat our anxieties.
I'd like to introduce myself.
Hi! My name is Kiera Donegan, a second-year English student at Fordham University. Some of you might be wondering, Why is a 20-year-old making a blog? Great question, I asked myself that when I started creating this. It all comes down to this: life can be lonely, especially in college. When people are applying to colleges, peers will always say, “It is the best time of your life! You will make so many lifelong friends.” I really wish it were that simple, but it’s not. There are countless days spent alone, meals eaten at an empty table, study nights at a quiet library, and walks around campus by yourself. I had such high hopes going into college because of the media I consumed on my phone. Picture-perfect Instagram photos, funny TikToks, and Snapchats of friends always together. It took a toll on my mental health. I thought, “Wow, is this really how life is supposed to be?” You can have many different friends, but still feel alone. You can love yourself for one second, but still think you are not worthy of it. I was questioning whether I should transfer or if the whole college route was for me.
Until I read a book, “The Half of It.” It opened my eyes to how stigmatized mental health really is. It talks about becoming secure in the person you want to be and never letting others' public opinion tarnish your progress. Why does social media never talk about this side of life? There is still no answer I have found, so I started working on how to really love myself. Instead of saying, “I am the problem,” I said, “Your mind is lying to you. You are lovable! You have a great family! You DO have friends!” Everyone is lovable; all it takes is finding the right people and a platform to teach you how to learn that.
You are worthy of love.
Just be you.
